1. Why does the NCAA have a merchandising licensing program?
The licensing program at the NCAA has four main objectives:

  • Ensure the quality and consistency of all of the NCAA's championship event merchandise.

  • Protect all service marks, trademarks and verbiage that relates to the NCAA (or have come to be associated with the NCAA), and to ensure that the use of these marks reflects on the NCAA in a favorable manner.

  • Generate revenue to support and enhance NCAA programs and to fund scholarships, programs or services to student-athletes of our member schools and conferences.

  • Protect the consumer from faulty or inferior products bearing the NCAA's trademarks.

2. Who is responsible for the NCAA licensing program?
The NCAA entered into a long-term agreement with the collegiate licensing company (“CLC”) to administer the domestic and international licensing programs for the NCAA. CLC manages the daily administration of the NCAA licensing program.

3. How do I become an NCAA licensee?

Anyone who wishes to obtain a license to produce merchandise containing NCAA trademarks may contact:

The collegiate licensing company
1075 peachtree street
suite 3300
atlanta, georgia 30309
phone: (770) 956-0520
http://www.Clc.Com/

4. What is the collegiate licensing company (CLC)?

The collegiate licensing company is the licensing representative for the NCAA. CLC is responsible for administering the licensing program, including processing applications, collecting royalties, enforcing trademarks and pursuing new market opportunities for the NCAA. Visit the CLC homepage
visit the CLC homepage

5. Who is licensed with the NCAA?

Either the NCAA's licensing (current NCAA licensees) office or the collegiate licensing company (visit the CLC homepage) can provide a list of current NCAA licensees. It is typically much easier to work with an established NCAA licensee than to try and license a new product or idea. Both the NCAA and CLC can provide you with information on the products produced by all licensees so you can match your needs with the right company.

6. Who needs a license?

Any individual, organization or company wishing to use the name or identifying marks of the NCAA and/or any of the NCAA's championship events must obtain a license. This includes manufacturers or service providers who use the NCAA name or logo on products (including premiums for promotions) or in advertising.

7. What products can be licensed?

Collegiate fans generate many great ideas for new NCAA products. Product ideas will be reviewed and approved by CLC's review committee and the NCAA's associate director of licensing. This ensures all products associated with the NCAA are of high quality and good taste and helps to prevent the approval of potentially hazardous items.

The NCAA reserves the right to decline licensing of any specific products or product categories.

8. What is the difference between an NCAA merchandise license, conference merchandise license and a school merchandise license (e.G., wake forest university)?

An NCAA merchandise license allows licensees to produce product leading up to and during its 90 championship events. A list of those events can be found at the NCAA’s championships homepage. The NCAA does not manage or monitor the licensing agreements of the conferences, schools or its other member institutions. If you are interested in using their logos and/or trademarks, you will need to contact each conference or institution individually. The NCAA does not maintain a list of each school's licensee contact.

9. Does the NCAA own trademarks and logos?

Yes, all rights to the identifying marks and symbols of the NCAA are reserved. No one may reproduce or copy them without the permission of the NCAA. Vigorous legal action will be taken against violators. NCAA current trademarks

10. Where can I get an NCAA merchandise catalog?

The NCAA does not produce a catalog.

11. Are any products exempt from licensing?

No. All goods bearing a mark of the NCAA must be licensed.

12. Does a license agreement mean the NCAA will endorse my products?

A license agreement does not indicate the NCAA's endorsement of a product. The NCAA does not endorse products covered in license agreements; the NCAA only permits use of its registered trademarks for products that have met strict standards of excellence and quality, and that enhance the image of the NCAA.

13. What if I do not get a license?

All products must be approved by the NCAA and the collegiate licensing company. Failure to obtain a license or approval from the NCAA and CLC would be grounds for the seizure of all non-approved merchandise bearing the NCAA's marks. Vigorous legal action will be taken against violators, which could result in jail time and numerous fines.

14. Is there a source where I can view the most current trademarks/logos for a university, conference or for the NCAA?

The NCAA logo library contains NCAA logos only and is accessible for all authorized entities of the NCAA. The NCAA does not have the authority to maintain a database for conference or university logos.

15. Can I use the NCAA's logo on a web site?

Every use of the NCAA's trademarks requires permission from the NCAA trademark office. The internet has made it easy for NCAA supporters to build web pages with the NCAA's name and logos, and the NCAA appreciates this support. However, federal trademark laws require that the NCAA control its name and marks; therefore, the NCAA must be very selective in granting permission in these and all instances. For more information, contact the NCAA's licensing office.

Teaching strategies aimed at raising achievement for boys

The fulham boys school

Our pledge, and unflinching resolve, is to be one of the best schools in this country - state or private in the next ten years.

To achieve this and pull off the seemingly impossible, we have created and constantly reinforced a very distinctive ethos. It is an ethos that is built upon the christian faith, nurtures enterprise and is geared towards boys.

Headmaster's welcome

The fulham boys school opened in september 2014 with its first year 7 pupils and currently has boys in years 7-12. We are particularly excited this year to open our inaugural sixth form. At the helm is our head of sixth form, mr ross maggs, who joined us last year from brighton college, one of the country’s best schools.

FBS is a free school, which means we are a publicly funded independent school. We embrace our independence which is evident in the way we design our curriculum, structure our school day, appoint and retain our staff, manage our finances and above all in our distinctive school ethos.

This ethos underpins everything. It is an ethos that is geared towards boys, nurtures enterprise - business, social and personal - and is built upon the christian faith; an ethos which relies on strong leadership, is committed to firm discipline, academic excellence, a love of sport and an appreciation of the arts. It is an ethos that transcends backgrounds and abilities, making FBS a truly comprehensive school.

Moreover, FBS is more than just a school. We are a real cooperative and as such rely completely on total buy in from parents, teachers, boys, governors and founders. Together, we believe we can fulfil our unswerving aim of becoming one of the best schools in this country - state or private.

As a teacher of english, I spend the vast majority of my time reading, writing, and thinking about other people’s words. Therefore, when reflecting on my first term as a newly qualified teacher at the fulham boys school, I turned to literature. I thought about shakespeare. I thought about austen. I thought about virginia woolf. But, eventually, I settled on dickens. The following quotations - the opening lines of some of his most famous pieces of writing - seemed to me to sum up what teaching has taught me thus far… it was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of light, it was the season of darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair. - A tale of two cities 1st september 2020. The best of times: the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The worst of times: beginning this chapter in the midst of a global pandemic. The challenges I faced starting out in teaching in 2020 were unprecedented; the rewards have been unimaginable. Lesson: there is always a silver lining.

January has always been my least favourite month. Christmas is over, the summer is millions of miles away, it’s cold and dark, and getting out of bed, let alone onto my bike to cycle to work, takes all I can muster up of that old ‘can do attitude’. And that’s a normal january. A january during the best of times. January 2021 is not normal. And definitely not during the best of times. So how do we get through january 2021 and beyond? Let me suggest ten things.

It’s time to put our cards on the table. Just over six years ago, a group of staff, boys and parents believed sufficiently in FBS to push against the odds to get it to open. It was a risk and hard work, with lots of ups and downs. Six years on, the school is oversubscribed; we delivered a cracking set of GCSE results last thursday, we have a cabinet full of sports trophies, have been london debating champions, can boast of grade 8 LAMDA actors, are about to move to a state of the art building, have standards and an ethos described as ‘beyond exceptional’ and have the best male voice singing outside wales. And yet, as we set up our sixth form, it almost seems like day one again. We were told that it would be difficult, ridiculously competitive in this part of west london, and would take about five years to establish a top class sixth form. ‘don’t sell out and settle for less for short term gain’ we were told. ‘be true to your vision and ethos’ they said. We won’t. And we will. But it is hard. Really hard. And the time has come to put our cards on the table and say, to make this work, we need you. But also, you need us.

We give students opportunities to be enterprising through taking risks, becoming daring, developing resilience, being team players, and building tenacity.

College football 150th anniversary reveals new logo

Irving, texas (feb. 8, 2018) – fresh off national signing day and the excitement surrounding it, the look of the college football 150th anniversary celebration is ready with the release of the campaign logo. In addition, CFB150 has announced a partnership with the marketing arm to assist with all facets of the upcoming anniversary.

“we are excited to announce the next steps for the 150th anniversary in 2019,” CFB150 executive director kevin weiberg noted. “we are proud to debut a logo that provides a unique way for all stakeholders to celebrate our great game. And by partnering with the marketing arm, we will be able to benefit from their nationally-respected experience in this space to help us execute a first-class celebration.”

It is just 326 days before the calendar turns to the anniversary year and a celebration at all levels of college football begins – with close to 800 schools expected to utilize the logo around their programs. The first college football game was played on november 6, 1869 - between princeton university and rutgers university in new brunswick, NJ. The national anniversary celebration will include a commemoration of the historic first game.

SME, a new york-based sports branding agency, was engaged to design a new logo that celebrates the anniversary with input from college football stakeholder groups.

“the opportunity to honor such a storied sport required an uplifting design reflective of a forward-looking celebration," said ed O’hara, chief creative officer of SME. “it had to be clean and iconic, while fully scalable and flexible enough to be adopted by institutions wishing to express their profound college football stories. Reflected in the mark’s final aesthetic, it is envisioned that this logo will serve as a point of pride around the country.”

The final design is a dynamic composition of forward-moving typography forged out of platinum to represent the significance of the occasion. A football graphic incorporated into the “bowl” of the number “5” highlights the significance of 150.

The marketing arm, a nationally recognized brand engagement agency, will assist with the creation of an integrated marketing campaign for the anniversary. Across college sports, the marketing arm manages and consults with over 150 properties, including teams, conferences, bowls and the college football hall of fame. The agency also works with over 100 brand clients, including AT&T, state farm, frito-lay, goodyear, nissan and wendy’s, executing over 10,000 brand events yearly, including staffs on over 100 college campuses year-round.

“the marketing arm couldn’t be more excited to take part in college football’s 150th anniversary,” stated michelle palmer, president, sports and experiential at the marketing arm. “college football is truly part of americana – and will continue to unite fans, build communities, provide educational opportunities, and instill leadership qualities within young people across this country for many decades to come. We look forward to igniting conversations, engaging passions, and delivering unforgettable experiences in 2019.”

All logos and other brand identification are available for immediate use when referencing the 2019 season and the college football 150th anniversary. An extensive brand standards guide will be available and additional uses outlined as the anniversary season approaches.
