From the brokers perspective a demo account is almost as expensive to run as a live account. We need to plug in live price feeds and redistribute just as much data to a demo account as we do to a live account.

A demo account is there to showcase our products and give a potentially new client the opportunity to discover the tools that each broker offers and the different functionality on the trading platform. Most spreadbet companies would consider 2 weeks plenty of time to trial the platform and allow a client enough screen time to decide whether they like the platform enough to apply for a real account.

What we don't want is someone opening a demo account for ever and scraping very expensive data over to another website or using tools free of charge for a long time. Most tools are supplied by 3rd parties who charge you on a per user basis and we need to ensure that we are only paying for people who have a live account or those who are genuinely trialling our product.

All brokers would react positively to you making contact with them and asking them to renew your demo account. They have to expire automatically so the system doesn't need to cope with an ever increasing number of demo accounts but getting your password and username renewed for another fortnight or month shouldn't be a problem.

If you're active on an account, they could be never expired but I think you're looking for a broker that you can leave your account inactive > 1 month.

Actually I don't see any broker offer it but in binary trading, I had a demo account that I opened from feb of 2014 and it is still alive now, even I left it for 2-3 months. That's broker is optiontrade.

Since I started trading forex in 2011, many things have changed. It used to be fairly easy to find brokers offering unlimited MT4 demo accounts. Now, it’s a real chore.

To make things worse, most of the websites that claim to have an exhaustive list of no-expiry MT4 demo brokers are outdated. Google still indexes brokers’ websites that used to – but no longer – offer unlimited time demo accounts for MT4.

For instance, searching for the terms “unlimited MT4 demo accounts” or “no expiration MT4 demo” will bring up results that include MB trading. MB trading used to offer non-expiring MT4 demo accounts but have now been acquired by tradeking. Tradeking’s demo accounts expire in 30 days.

Dukascopy used to offer unlimited MT4 demo accounts as well. Now their demo accounts expire in only 14 days! I’m not talking about 14 – 30 days of inactivity either. There are tons of examples like these.

It doesn’t make sense for a forex broker to limit the time a prospective client can use their demo account. No trader can properly forward test a trading system in 30 days or less. It takes lots of back testing and demo trading to determine whether or not any particular trading strategy is profitable.

Brokers that don’t give you unlimited MT4 demo accounts are essentially saying, “I don’t think you are going to be a profitable trader, but if I limit your testing period to 30 days or less, you may not realize that fact, and you’ll still fund an account with us.”
